Johyun Gallery is seeking a Gallery Assistant for a remote position based in Singapore. This role will begin as a work-from-home opportunity until mid-next year, transitioning to an in-person position at our office space. Candidates must be fluent in both English and Mandarin. Proficiency in Korean is a plus.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Remote Position):

  • Provide administrative support for various gallery operations leading up to the opening of the physical office space.
  • Be available for occasional in-person meetings and tours in Singapore with the Gallery Directors and other staffs.
  • Attend and assist with client meetings in Singapore, especially when visitors from Korea or other regions are present.
  • Assist the Art Fair Director with the execution and management of tasks related to international art fairs, including communications, art fair document preparation, scheduling, and logistical coordination.
  • Support art fair operations, such as preparing design materials using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Coordinate international shipping for artworks, ensuring all processes are handled efficiently and according to timelines.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Upon Transition to In-Person Position):

  • Greet visitors warmly, manage front desk operations, and maintain a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Share detailed information about the gallery’s artists and programs with visitors.
  • Manage incoming calls, client visits, and notify relevant staff members of arrivals.
  • Record and track visitor information, oversee the visitor flow during exhibitions, and manage the group tour schedule.
  • Handle mail distribution, package deliveries, and maintain daily office operations.
  • Assist with gallery events, including guest check-in and visitor guidance.
  • Ensure the gallery is exhibition-ready each day and manage office supply inventory.

 

PERSONAL QUALITIES: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with artists, partners, vendors, and clients; 
  • Detail-oriented and capable of prioritizing and executing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; 
  • Fast learner with excellent memory skills; 
  • Elegant phone etiquette; 
  • Creative problem solver; 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with clients, colleagues;
  • Consistent, punctual, discrete, and reliable; 
  • Passionate about the art world. 

 

PREFERRED: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, Art related major, preferred; 
  • 2+ years of comparable work experience;
  • Computer skills: MS Office Suite, Google workspace, Adobe Suite;
  • Tech savvy a must;
  • After-hours and weekend work required to complete projects and assist as needed;
  • Immediate availability.

 

Overall, the candidate will be responsible for communicating with the Director, clients, artists, studio representatives, and curators, and therefore, discretion, sophistication, and poise are essential attributes. The role will involve significant client interaction, requiring the candidate to possess excellent customer service skills. The candidate should be a team player who is willing to take on multiple tasks and support the Director and the team in achieving their objectives.
