1) Never send money, or give credit card or online account details to anyone you do not know and trust, especially if you have not met him/her before. • Do not open suspicious or unsolicited emails (spam): delete them.
2) Never reply to a spam email (even to unsubscribe).
3) Make sure you know how to stop any subscription service you want to sign up to.
4) Check the website address carefully. Scammers often set up fake websites with very similar addresses.
5) No one should ever release their highly confidential information, such as account user id, password, PIN, credit card details etc. to anyone over an email.
6) Money laundering is a criminal offence: do not agree to transfer money for someone else.
7) Some email users may instead receive other scam emails, for example, claiming that they had won a lottery that they may not even have participated in. The email recipients would usually be asked to pay an advance administrative fee before the lottery money could be released to them. If the (scam) email sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Recipients of such scam emails are advised not to respond to them and not to give out any personal information such as personal identification number, address, telephone number, bank account number etc.
8) Police said while it is normal during the course of their work for investigators to inform members of the public over the phone on court dates and appointments at the police station, they will never ask for money to be deposited into a bank account
