Release of the 2006 Primary School Leaving Examination Results
Performance of 2006 PSLE Cohort
- A total of 50,615 Primary 6 pupils sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year. Of these, 5,521 were from the EM3 course. All pupils sat for English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue except for pupils in the EM3 course who sat for Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics and Basic Mother Tongue or Mother Tongue.
- In all, 49,452 pupils (or 97.7%) have been assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. Of these pupils, 63.6% are eligible for the Special or Express course, 21.0% for the Normal (Academic) and 13.1% for the Normal (Technical) course.
- There are 1,163 pupils (or 2.3%) who are assessed to be not yet ready for secondary school in 2007 or are more suited for vocational training. Of these, 1,052 will be given another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their basic language and mathematics skills. The remaining 111, who are either over-aged or have attempted PSLE thrice, will be enrolled in basic vocational training courses. Pupils who have attempted PSLE twice may apply to enrol in NorthLight School.
- Eligible pupils will receive their option forms to select secondary schools from their respective primary schools today. Parents are reminded to submit the completed option forms to their childrens primary schools, between 23 Nov and 29 Nov 2006 from 0900 to 1500 hours (excluding Saturday and Sunday on 25 and 26 Nov 2006 respectively).
- The Secondary One posting results will be released on 21 Dec 2006. Pupils are to collect their results through their primary schools on 21 Dec 2006, and report to their posted secondary schools on 22 Dec 2006.

NB:
- The following criteria are used for the identification of schools:
- The percentage of pupils eligible for secondary schools must be at least or above the national average of 97.7%;
- The school must register at least 5% improvement in the percentage of pupils who qualify for Special/Express courses compared to the 2005 results;
- The school must register a positive improvement in the percentage of pupils eligible for N(A), Express and Special courses compared to the 2005 results; and
- The school must have at least 100 candidates.
